After the attacks on the truth, buried under false information and the polarization of opinions, we are living at the dawn of a new stage that will threaten the basis of our common life; it draws its water from generalized deregulation and intends to redefine our relationship with reality. Expressing an invariant of the human species in a new and sudden form, this deregulation is exalted by new ideological currents and the development of technologies such as AI or virtual reality. How far can that take us? At the crossroads of sociology, cognitive sciences and foresight, the reflection of the professor at La Sorbonne continues those begun in “The democracy of the credulous” PUF2013 and “Cognitive Apocalypse” PUF2011".
