An innovative partnership between BNP Paribas Cardif, the Risk Foundation and the Institute of Actuaries has resulted in the ACTIONS chair (Actuaries for Change in Technologies and Insurees Opportunities for Next Steps).

Objective: to change actuarial practices by supporting theoretical and applied research.

Patronage at the service of science

The ACTIONS chair highlights a winning partnership: BNP Paribas Cardif finances theses, postdocs, conferences and other scientific initiatives aimed at understanding and modeling the evolution of policyholders, and at communicating about risk. This approach brings together a dozen researchers from French and foreign institutes, reinforced by the expertise of working groups at the Institute of Actuaries and Cardif managers.

Four promising areas of research

The work of the chair addresses crucial issues for the insurance sector, in particular:

· Carbon footprint and repairability: Rather than replacing damaged goods such as telephones, bicycles, cars, why not give priority to their repair? This eco-responsible approach aims to reduce the environmental impact while raising the awareness of policyholders.

· Parametric insurance : In response to natural disasters such as droughts or epidemics, this solution allows for almost instantaneous compensation, without waiting for long evaluations by experts. A lifesaver for farms or farms in difficulty.

· Awareness of risk sharing: Through educational initiatives, the chair promotes a better understanding of insurance mechanisms to guide policyholders in their choices and behaviors.

· Exploitation of health data: The CONSTANCES cohort, with its 220,000 volunteers followed over more than 10 years, offers a wealth of information on the behavior of insured persons. This data makes it possible to model new risks and to develop prevention strategies.
