The Louis Bachelier Institute will welcome, from January 1, 2026, the TREND (S) Chair — Transformation of Retailing Ecosystem (s) & New Market Dynamics for Sustainability, a unique research program in France dedicated to the transformation of trade and the creation of sustainable value in a rapidly changing sector.

A chair at the heart of contemporary trade issues

Founded in 2019, the TREND (S) chair explores changes in trade by mobilizing businesses, researchers, public authorities and citizens around the same ambition: to understand how trade can contribute to a more sustainable, more inclusive and more resilient society.

His work analyzes in particular:

  • the emergence of more sustainable business models, especially circular ones;
  • the impact of technological, organizational and human transformations;
  • consumer expectations in a context of ecological and digital transition;
  • territorial dynamics linked to the social role of trade.

At a time when retail players must reinvent their models, respond to environmental challenges and strengthen their territorial roots, a chair dedicated to these themes seems more relevant than ever.

A recognized scientific direction

The chair is directed by Isabelle Collin-Lachaud, university professor at University Professor in Management Sciences and Management at Toulouse School of Management - EPE Toulouse Capitole University.
Founder of the chair, she was appointed in 2023 to National Commerce Council as a qualified personality, showing the recognition of his expertise.

Around it, TREND (S) brings together a international network of more than 35 researchers from more than 15 institutions, as well as doctoral students, post-docs and research engineers who contribute to scientific production and operational support to partners.

Joining the chair: a strategic commitment for businesses

The TREND (S) chair operates on a co-construction model with its partners-sponsors. Companies that join the chair benefit from:

  • cutting-edge expertise, mobilizing an ecosystem of specialized researchers;
  • of tailor-made projects, designed based on their strategic questions;
  • an ability to analyze independently to anticipate changes in trade;
  • institutional visibility during the chair's events and publications;
  • privileged access to talent trained in contemporary retail challenges.

Partners generally commit themselves over two to three years in order to support long-term research and to support the development of innovative projects, in particular theses.
