The Europlace Institute of Finance (IEF), a member of the Louis Bachelier Institute, is launching its call for research projects for the year 2025. Ten projects will be selected and financed up to €10,000 each.

Who is the call for?
Researchers in economy and Finances, as well as other disciplines mobilizing relevant methods and objects to inform the transformations of the financial system.
Projects should be mainly carried out by academic researchers, with at least one member affiliated with a French academic institution.
Scientific ambition
In a context ofacceleration of technological, ecological and macroeconomic transitions, the IEF wishes to support work rigorous and innovative, combining theoretical, empirical or experimental analyses, and shedding light on emerging challenges for public and private financial players.
The call is voluntarily open thematically in order to encourage plural approaches.
Thematic axes (not exclusive)
1) Financial markets, liquidity and structural transformations
- Bilateral trading, block trading: information, dynamics and price formation, regulation, Forex experience, ETFs vs futures contracts
- Liquidity: the role of fixing, decrease in the number of listed companies, transaction costs across the value chain (market and post-market)
- Decentralized finance; blockchain; smart contracts; interactions between tokenized economy and traditional finance
- Financial transaction tax: analyses and impact
2) Emerging technologies, data and AI: uses, opportunities and limits in finance
- Generative AI: data structuring, model governance, explainability
- Machine learning for rapid pricing, hedging, risk management, and model risk
- Cyber risk and security of digital infrastructures, digital sovereignty, financial technology control
3) Risks, insurance and sustainability
- Climate and ESG risks: measurement, prevention, adaptation, adaptation, impact, insurability, mutualization
- De-risking, risk management models and feedback
- Supply chains: vulnerabilities, territorial reconfigurations, financial impacts
- Agro-economy: agricultural finance and insurance, climate change adaptation, North-South comparisons
4) Savings Management, Capital Allocation, and Macroeconomic Uncertainty
- Managing savings in the face of political priorities: alignment, efficiency, macro effects
- Managing funds in times of uncertainty or turbulence
- Private assets (private equity, private debt, natural capital, real estate) vs public assets in strategic allocation: trade-offs, illiquidity, information asymmetries, slow trading (vs HFT)
- Resilience vs vulnerability in the non-bank financial sector
- Liquidity management tools for open-ended funds invested in private assets
5) Monetary systems, public finances and major transitions
- Stablecoins, cryptoassets and digital currencies: legal status, architecture, uses, governance, de-dollarization, financial and social implications
- Public debt sustainability: dynamics, scenarios, risks
- Demographics, retirement, long-term financing, securitization and economic development
Expected criteria and commitments
- Priority To the projects innovators and little-explored.
- With equal quality and interest, priority is given to applications for which the The support of the IEF is decisive.
- The bearers undertake, in case of selection, to present and discuss their work with the Institute's partners.
- Responses may mention existing links with players in the financial center, which can be strengthened.
- One indicative calendar work is requested, including the horizon of first intermediate results.
